Tulamben - USAT Liberty Wreck

Site de plongée : Tulamben - USAT Liberty Wreck - Diving Club Evolution Diver Amed Bali

The wreck of the USAT is one of the most beautiful in the world and also accessible. It's very easy to get to because it's open and close to the beach. It's also Bali's most popular dive site. Our proximity means we're the first on the site, avoiding the crowds in high season. Very beautiful by day and by night.

Built in 1918, this 125m-long cargo ship was used at the end of the First World War to transport horses and goods from New York (USA) to Brest (France). Requisitioned by the US Army for the Second World War, it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine on January 11, 1942 off Lombok on the way to the Philippines. Water damage got too severe, and the ship ran aground on Tulamben beach, unloading its cargo of railway equipment and rubber. In 1963, Mount Agung erupted, and a lava flow caused it to slide from the beach into the sea. The wreck is now submerged at depths of between 5 and 30m, and has become very rich in aquatic life.
