Why dive in Amed?
Amed is a string of fishing villages on the north-east coast of Bali, at the foot of Mount Agung. Far from the bustle of the south of the island, it is now one of the most popular diving destinations in Indonesia: sites are reachable from the beach or after a few minutes on a jukung (traditional outrigger boat), currents are usually mild and the diversity is impressive, from wrecks to coral gardens, drop-offs and macro sites.
Amed is also an ideal place to learn to dive: warm water, easy entries, shallow first sites and a calm atmosphere that puts beginners at ease.
When is the best season?
You can dive in Amed all year round. The dry season (April to October) offers the most stable conditions and the best visibility (20 to 30 m). The rainy season (November to March) is still very diveable: showers are short and water temperature ranges from 27 to 30 °C. July–August and late December are the busiest; book your courses in advance.
Must-dive sites
From our center, we drive to the sites of Amed, Jemeluk, Tulamben and Kubu:
- USAT Liberty in Tulamben: a 120 m American cargo ship sunk in 1963, one of the most famous wrecks in the world, accessible from Open Water level (5 to 30 m).
- The Japanese wreck in Amed: a small shallow wreck, ideal for beginners and snorkelling.
- Amed Pyramids: artificial reefs colonised by corals and schools of fish.
- Jemeluk Bay: reef, drop-off and exceptional macro life.
- The Boga wreck in Kubu: purposely sunk in 2011, for Advanced divers (16 to 40 m).
- Tulamben Coral Garden and Drop Off: corals, gorgonians, turtles and sometimes reef sharks.

What level do I need?
None! The Try Scuba experience is open from 10 years old, with no experience required. Certified divers (SSI, PADI, CMAS…) can enjoy fun dives or move on to the next level: Open Water, Advanced, specialities or Divemaster. Just bring your certification card and logbook.
How to get to Amed?
Amed is about 2.5 – 3 hours by road from Denpasar airport (Ngurah Rai) and 1.5 hours from Ubud. We can organise your private transfer. Once there, everything is within walking or scooter distance, and our drivers pick you up at your hotel for every dive.
Diving in English or French in Bali
Evolution Diver is a bilingual dive center: briefings, courses and teaching materials are available in English and in French. Our instructors are SSI and ADIP certified and guide groups of maximum 4 divers.
